Yard dogs as biological alarms

Where I live is rural in nature. So I can have yard dogs which I do have to feed and also  do the other medical things. Often they stay out of the weather by staying under the porch or in the barn or one or the storage sheds. Once they even stayed out in the woods...I assume under one of the rock overhangs but don't really know for sure.

And they are not perfect as "biological alarms", but compared to the more modern manmade things, they do OK, at least to me.

And all my "invaders" are not always human riff raff with probably bad intent. Sometimes the invaders are wildlife in pursuit of sex, food, or whatever.

Yep, I even have black bears living around here; and it is the spring time, like the time for mating. Heck, one got killed on the interstate highway recently and near here. And I have found "foot prints" around here, too, like within 400 meters, like a quarter mile. So maybe the yard dogs are barking at something?

Now I also have  a framed reprint of the 1879 Christmas menu from the Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville. The hotel was famous for its menu. Well on it was leg of Cumberland Mountain black bear, so I guess we all ate them all. No wonder they are sneaky these days.

And the present yard dogs bark all night at whatever.

Who knows what or why they are barking a lot at night. But for sure it is different than earlier, and I like my biological alarms today as a result.
