How to make soap at home
There are many internet articles on all this. Most for soap making usually require the use of lye. So here is a link on how to make lye: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Lye   Now there are many ways to make lye, but the link should provide you ideas on how to do it where you live and with what you have available.
Basically one can make lye from water and hardwood ash from a fire. And be careful with the lye, as it is dangerous to work with and breathe.
Now on to making soap at home, and candles, too, try this link: http://candleandsoap.about.com/od/soapmakingbasics/a/How-To-Make-Soap.htm This link has candle and lye making connections, too.
Basically, and in my opinion, making soap is like a school chemistry class experiment. That means following a procedure, and be taught or supervised. After all our ancestors did it, and so can we if we need to. None of this is rocket science, but figuring it out from scratch is tough. Now, and as in cooking, one can enhance the soap's appearance and smell as they wish.
Now there is a Plan B, also. Find someone during hard times who does this already, and barter your own time or some assets they need to get the soap you need. In the meantime, make do as best you can. Most already have some soaps at their abode.
