Are we Americans stupid, or just politically correct?
            I am beginning to wonder?
Here's my thoughts on being stupid. Like do fellow humans, people if you will, often our relatives, have mental problems in today's talk. And if you believe this, or think this, whatever, then do they have "individual rights" to murder their fellow man? Of course my vote is no. The idea is both preposterous and silly, but does happen.
Now I have such a "situation" within my own Family. And I admire all the efforts moms and dads do for their kids. Often special schools and a lot of time and money and parental effort is involved.  But I also have an expectation of being safe while doing public things like going to school, shopping, the movies, etc. After all, we do have jails to protect us from bad criminal people who have earlier shown they are bad and will hurt us.  So why not protect us from mentally "off" people, too.
And I feel as though I have a special advantage based on where I lived and what I have observed and lived with. Basically the old time ways our ancestors sorted things out was through asylums, and orphanages, but they screwed that up, too.  But at least they dealt with the problem, as best they could. But that all led to what we have today, and that is pretty crummy, too. Said another way, and to keep things simple, we went from asylums and orphanages to more homeless people and foster care.
Now I think the present day often has our society full of homeless people, often mentally ill, and we did the homeless bit to ourselves.  Even our half century of laws and policies and practices have encouraged things like broken homes when government charity has added to the problem, though I am sure the intentions were good at the beginning.
And as hard as it is to admit, we humans have an ugly side, too. Like some of us are "mentally off"  from the start, and some kids lose their parents for a myriad of reasons. In other words, it happens.
But I still expect to be able to go about life, again, like go to school, shopping, the movies, whatever, without thinking about being murdered.
So are we so politically correct to allow mass murder to still occur in the name of individual rights of those mentally off? And we will all grieve, but are we going to do something about this through dealing with the ugly side of humanity? Can we do better than our ancestors? I think so.
My goal is just to treat humans that are homeless better than we treat dogs in our kennels.  And at least many are doing their best for the dogs and cats. So should we do for our fellow humans better than we do today?
And for the moms and dads that do so well for their mentally ill kids, just remember life and age will catch up, and you will probably die earlier than your child. Please don't leave the problem with the rest of us.
And for the rest of us, let's deal with the problem better than our ancestors did, or at least try. Said another way, denigrate political correctness in the name of public safety; and at the same time take care of those that will benefit by our public help.
All this will take time, like a decade or more, but one does have to try, and reinforce success along the way. Now that is a new political awareness attitude, to me.
