Oiling my wood floors
Presently I use linseed oil to
preserve my wood floors, which is a vegetable oil made from flax seed. Here is
a wiki link on the subject: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linseed_oil
Even my dogs lick it.
Now earlier I even used modern
chemical stuff, like polyurethane wood floor coverings. My dogs don't lick it.
My present wood floor is a
combination of all. Some of this 1905 cottage is hardwood chestnut wood; some
of it is more modern local hard maple wood. And the 1906 cottage next door is
different, too. It has some modern polyurethane wood covering in one room, too.
My intent is just to be clean and
healthy, as best I can with what I have been dealt.
Let me say it another way. I am big
on preventing getting sick, vice trying to cure sickness.
And oiling my floors, really like keeping them clean enough to
prevent disease, is a smart idea, to me.
Even if it is "slick as ice
today". Thank goodness for my present relatives taking pity on me and
providing me long johns that I wear today as the linseed oil absorbs into the
woods pores, maybe even just evaporates.
I give it a day or two.
In the meantime, I'll just be real
careful, mostly about the "slickness".
And last, I have lived in a canvass
tent with a dirt floor. And proper hygiene worked just fine back then. So can
it today.
