Sugar

Sugar

Here's a long wiki link on the subject:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar

Generally speaking, we humans don't need sugar to live by. Now one exception comes to mind, like when we get the poops, like from cholera or typhoid or even serious burns. Then a combination of water, salt, and sugar sure does help we humans survive by often even oral means, to include enemas.

So the rest of the time, once sugar or artificial sugar runs out, then we have to grow our own sugar. Now keep in mind many things make sugar, to include sugar cane, sorghum cane, sugar beets,  "hard" maple trees, and even honey bees.

And if times get hard, don't forget simple boiling of  "dirty" water for a few minutes, certainly no longer than 5 minutes (really 3 minutes will do just fine), should make it clean enough for humans, even if it is still muddy looking.

Last one suggested recipe for hard times planning to put in our relatives and friends is:

A basic oral rehydration therapy solution is composed primarily of salt, sugar, and water using a standard ratio:  30 ml sugar: 2.5 ml salt : 1 liter water

  • 2 tbl. sugar : 0.5 tsp. salt : 1 quart water

Now how to convert whatever you have into basic sugar demands your own thoughts and ingenuity. There are many ways...not just providing life and happiness, for example.
