Bren light machine gun

Bren light machine gun

Here's the wiki link on the subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bren_gun

Here's some relative's talk on the subject:

Amazed it was in service this late, seemed like the best allied LMG until the M-60.

MG-42 (German) was best until M-60, which appears to be derived from MG-42. Marine friend in 70’s told me his M-60’s jammed apparently from defective parts.

I don’t know what is best now, especially SAW vs. M-249 (FN)

I assume with the tight budget $’s, that the Army has stopped/suspended its quest for an M-16 replacement?

Special Ops want a replacement. There are several new AR types out that use an operating rod instead of a gas tube best of which is HK-416, (which is what most designs used before the M-16).

Venting burned powder directly into the chamber has always been a poor idea for weapons that are supposed to go hundreds or thousands of rounds between cleaning (good for civilians that clean frequently).

What I have read is standard practice is to heavily lubricate the M-16 if you cannot clean it,  although this does attract dust and freezes when cold.

But no field trials/processes/timeline/$’s planned for implementation of a replacement, right?

Special Ops are probably testing. They have been procuring/testing different types of 50 cal sniper rifles
