            From my time in Turkey decades ago I learned that when Kurds were drafted into the Turkish military, they were usually assigned to areas far away from their homeland in eastern Turkey. I don't know if this national practice still exists.

            When the mostly Russian and British diplomats divided up the caucasus area (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasus) over a century ago, many wish that a Country called Kurdistan had been created.
