Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution

Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution

A long wiki link on the subject can be found at:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

The intent of this post is to provide historical information on how our Federal Government presently gets most of its spending money in 2013.

Basically, we the people pay for our Federal government in our "voluntarily" contributed taxes, plus the interest on its borrowing since our taxes no longer pay for everything federal, including block grants to States and national defense.

I remember reading about the historical debate about the Amendment. One debate was about limiting it to 2% of income (the old standard), but that was discounted as an absurd limit. Now look at what we have ended up with.

Said another way,  April 15th Federal tax payment day is only a century old idea. Again, before that there was no Federal Income Tax, period. Now we did have to pay State and local taxes, too. But I consider that as part of our ancestors supporting our American Culture and civilization in general.  Can anyone say "public schooling" , or police and fire protection, for example? I suspect our ancestors did.

Now it is your turn about what to do for you and your Families' future in 2013.
