Make a Cosmic Ray Detector at Home and Test
Relativity!

I, myself, made such a cloud
chamber in the sixth grade. In this case I used an old mayonnaise jar, some
black cloth, and my Dad bought some high class drinking alcohol. Now that I am
an old man, I suspect high proof grain alcohol or even moonshine might work,
too. Even then I probably used a rubber condom to stretch over the mouth of the
mayonnaise jar, but I didn’t know what I was dealing with at the time. And the
dark room was a closet where I shut the door, and used a flashlight to
illuminate the cloud chamber.
And I did see cosmic ray
tracks in the cloud chamber, too. It was so amazing for this young man circa
1960.
