History is what is written and not what happened
The Marines are pretty good at that, in addition to fighting. We
even activated Two Lt.Col. Reserve Historians just to record what they said
happened in Desert Storm. One was a PhD prof at Ohio State and I now forget
where the other one was from. And these two were just at the Marine Division we
were in. There were two Marine Divisions there, too. A third Division provided
augmentation, also. And all this had a headquarters, too. Now that is a lot of
historians.
What’s the old joke? Like a Marine will do about anything to get
off a boat, including attacking some enemy if need be.
So since this recent winter ice storm was so bad in its impact
around here I decided to take some pictures. Since my Sony digital camera
allows me the choice of using an SD card or a Sony Memory Stick, I chose to use
the more generic SD card for recording the pics, which are attached to this post. I’ll save them on my hard drive, too.
I made the pics email size (VGA) to help in the transmission.
First the good news. The Hemlocks suffered no serious roof damage
to any buildings, so we lucked out I would say.
Now the bad news. There is a lot of storm damage all around as the
pictures show. The yard is bad enough, but add in around 5 miles of ATV trails,
and it will be maybe two years before I recover from all the debris blocking
the yards and trails, and keep up with normal maintenance, too.
Now XXXX did clear the driveway so I could get out to go to get
some food today, and emergency vehicles could get in and out, too. And there
are still many electrical repair type vehicles out about. I even saw a
telephone repair truck out, and since they need telephone poles up, now it is
their turn to start their process. In Max’s case, he must be one tired puppy
after clearing 400 yards or so of driveway in the sub freezing ice and snow,
and then driving one full day back to Wilmington, NC. Sitting in a car seat for
a long time after exercise can be tough on a body. And his reward is returning
home to a wife and brand new baby and new job. Bummer.
Last, the electric CO-OP gave me about 1,000 feet of electrical
wire, and the telephone company gave me something similar (all over 5 years
ago) if I would agree to bury it. That did help, at least a little in the
Hemlocks case.
Now here are some pics…..
