How to cook

How to cook

First one link on the subject. Call it Cooking 101:  http://www.wikihow.com/Cook

Bottom line, if you can boil water then you can also cook for yourself and your loved ones.
And assuming some kind of hard time’s situation erupts, then 3 out of 4 still have jobs and they probably know how to cook. So this post is mostly intended for the 1 out of 4 who may be more “cooking challenged”.
So here are some extra pointers for free.
1)      Cook the food hot enough to kill germs and viruses.  If you don’t have a thermometer to use, then use your eyeball and smell tests. Some temperature above 138 F (around 59 C) seems to be popular these days. I prefer cooking my food above 162 F ( 73 C ) for similar reasons. Now the taste usually suffers, too.
2)      About any source of heat will work. In the new world USA, the usual means are either electric or natural gas powered, but throughout the world there are many other sources of heat, too. Even where I live in east Tennessee one can use firewood routinely for cooking.
3)      And you really don’t need to cook a lot of food, too. Consider eating canned food or even MRE’s as another way to feed yourself or your loved ones.
4)      Now do boil your water(like for two minutes) to make it safe for drinking by humans. And of course there are many other ways to do the same thing, too.
5)      Do stockpile some kind of multi-vitamins and multi-minerals, just in case.
