If you have less than that, consider rationing water in all of its uses. Last, conventional wisdom is that humans can survive up to three days without water, depending on the situation, of course.

One does not want to get dehydrated (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dehydrated), for example. To get dehydrated invites a miserable mental and physical condition and possible death.
