Plane Geometry

Plane Geometry

Most of us have some education (and training - like cutting angles when building things *) in plane geometry. Some even know about spherical geometry, usually because of the "great circle route" used by airplanes over long routes around the earth. Well a fellow named Euclid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euclid) had something to do with these subjects. He lived thousands of years ago.

Another geek type person was Pythagoras (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagoras). Even these days we use a lot of his work, again from thousands of years ago. Some it was almost cult type religious things which had a math base.  Even where I live today, often the numbers phi and pi come up when connecting mountain tops, for example. So some people interpreted that as  there was something religious going on.

The intent of this post is just to provide some information for the home school instructor, if they even choose to use it.

* Once I had to line up vehicles for a dog and pony show for a Secretary of Defense. Well I used the 3-4-5 triangle method from thousands of years ago to plan it out over the one mile route. Most of my fellow planners just had no idea, or so they said. This info I had learned in the 10th grade, by the way.
