Unilateral disarmament for dummies

Unilateral disarmament for dummies

We in the USA have been disarming our military for years, now.

Now there are consequences we now get to live with. It's not about debating  or talking until I  am blue in the face anymore, but it is about what is happening right in front of us, like a way of our future USA  life.

The "reports" about how powerful we are just misleading  most of us, in my opinion.

For example, the USA can no longer fight, "and sustain", a war anywhere in the world.

Now we still can temporarily "concentrate" forces, like the Navy is doing in the Syria area of the eastern  Mediterranean area these days. But two obvious points come to my mind:

                        1) To get these Navy and Marine Corps assets, the USA is further drawing down its assets in the Persian Gulf area. While that is fine with me, I just wish it was getting reported in the USA.

                        2)  Just ask the Families about what they think? I myself have been on a ship that was extended, and the morale factor was a big deal...like it lowered morale to be extended. And I also know what it is like finally coming home and hearing my Family's opinion about their quality of life. Basically, I met a lot of unhappy campers. They are part of the American equation, too.

Now there is also only one way to man a nation's military that I know of, and without a draft.  Mostly it means recruiting lot's of new young people, and also retaining many of the older people. It also means maintaining (or rebuilding)  the infrastructure to train and educate  these people young and old. So during unilateral disarmament times, expect the consequences, like people bailing out and infrastructure going away, and including future  spin up time if the poo poo hits the fan enough for the political leaders wanting to call in the military, and it is not there anymore in sufficient numbers and gear and infrastructure.

The alternatives are obvious to me. One is that we cannot  even get enough people to join or even stay these days. That's coming...really it is already starting. That's what I would do. The other is the consequences for our USA foreign policy.  Surrender is now one option if push comes to shove.

Lord knows we don't go back to a "draft" like I know about and I was both subjected to and motivated by.  But that can happen again the way things are going. That includes our young sons and daughters...can you imagine? And even that will take time to see a result, like years.

And we're voting  for all this stuff, or so I believe.
