DIY
stands for "do it yourself".

So if you can't learn how to make
soap like your ancestors did, then just physically wash the dirty clothes as
best you can and with what you've got.
None of this is rocket science.
Being as clean as possible is a good
preventive medicine measure.
If times get hard, then many humans
will get dirty, and often daily.
Sunshine, mostly the UV rays, and
fresh air and clothes lines, are a healthy way to dry our clothes.
In times of foul weather, and even
cloudy weather, air dry clothes in the shelter by a fire or wood stove, or
otherwise do as best you can. Even a porch has advantages, too. Our ancestors
did it , and so can we.
Last, I figure we are as smart as
our ancestors had to be. Now it is our turn, worse case. And who knows, it
might even be healthier and safer than our present habits.
