            Having a basement, root cellar, salt cellar, wine cellar, etc, is an advantage in most hard times situations. Even most old time civil defense locations in the USA tended to be in the basements and the lower floor of many public buildings. Any place that tends to be cool, dark, and dry is usually a good place to extend the shelf life of any thing stored there.
