A Flag Pole story
Well I had a choice and
made a choice.
I chose to use a local locust log for a flag
pole. Of course I still have to harvest it and put it in the ground. That’s
easy around here, assuming there is enough dirt on top of the sandstone rock.
Hence, the location is still up for grabs until I actually dig a successful
hole.
The flag is due in next Tuesday. It will be an "outside"
3’ X 5’ American flag.
The intent was to make it look local, which is
just what it is. My hope is that it might even make my periodic trespassers
“nervous”, plus provide another civilization type hope for all of us. My local
yard dogs do pretty much the same, by the way.
The alternative was a more “modern” 20 foot
above ground aluminum flag pole, which sounded OK to me, too. I expect my
locust flag pole to be taller.
Just a story that influenced me. Maybe it was
over 5 years ago I installed two local tetherball setups, one with a maple log,
and one with a locust log. Well today the locust log setup is still going fine,
while the maple log rotted and failed within three years of installation.
Last, I could have even chosen to get extra
flag pole “things”, but have chosen to go the more “primitive”, an old
fashioned way to do a flag and flag pole.
Only time will tell, including any ceremonies
one wants to do with their Family. As for me, once raised, that’s it.
Later:
And I’ve already cut and
dragged the locust tree to the front yard, and the tree does have curve in it,
which is fine with me.
It’s definitely taller
than 20 feet, the size of the aluminum pole I looked at.
