City-state

City-state

A wiki link on the subject can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City-state

In the last few decades there are two examples of this way of life and governing still existing and doing OK in our present world.

One are in the usual nation-state areas of Africa and the trans-caucus area. Good examples are outsiders trying to impose their will on the nation-states capitol, usually full well thinking  the rest of the "country" is on its own, including most often even before outsider intervention in order to conquer the "capital city".

Two is when human population was minimal, and city states provided a good way to survive, be defended,  and be ruled. That time has changed, too, or so is my opinion in 2013.

By the way, city-states still exist. Singapore and the Vatican are two obvious examples.
