1) Batteries
are not there yet as regards routine commercial use (where I live in eastern Tennessee on the Cumberland Plateau).
1a) Shelf life
for today's batteries for like a solar plant is at best eight years.
2) Rechargeable
batteries are there for simple things like toys, small lights, and sensors
(like a smoke alarm).
3) Sooner or
later someone will figure out how to make a battery that holds more energy.
4) I once made
a battery using a lemon, so many things can be used as explained in the wiki
article.
5) Reminder:
Keep extra batteries on hand during Christmas toy season.
