Morale and the ole wood stove
I am becoming like my yard dogs more and more
I cannot
explain it, but on a chilly Fall day, my morale is enhanced by the warmth of a
wood stove I can huddle by.
Even when
camping or fishing and being chilly, an open fire is also always good for
morale. I just enjoy warming myself as
best I can.
It is also a
good time to visit and talk and speak with others, too. The common factor is
usually the fire. It is not a bad time to tell and share stories, too. Heck,
some of them might even be true. That's part of the fun.
I even
remember my military time in a Korean winter, and my then diesel powered stove
was good for morale, too. At least we had diesel, though putting one's feet
into frozen boots was never an enjoyable experience. Hence, one would usually
even try warm their boots up by the AM started stove while they hunkered down
in their sleeping bag (me and my tent mate would usually try wait the other one
out). Back then, the controls were unreliable, so one could not let the stove
burn overnight.
When one
lives in a canvas tent with a dirt floor in a Korean winter, morale and a stove
for heat is a big deal.
Hence, I
believe it will always be a big deal any where, too, in this case a USA fall,
and even a possible bitter winter.
Last, I presently
sit by my wood stove as I write, and it is presently good for my morale to
enjoy the heat the stove puts off. Now, and also for my morale, the expectation
of coming back to this stove is also very dear to my morale. After all, I do
have to check on "things", too. And it chilly and windy outside, too.
