Telling stories

Telling stories

Telling stories can be fun to the story teller. And some story tellers are better than others. What’s new?
Sometimes the stories are true, or at least have an element of truth in them. We people do a lot of things that are worth telling stories about. Some of them might be a “little” embarrassing or otherwise need some cleaning up, but one can use storytelling to cover that up as best they can.
And it so much fun to listen to stories, too.
And of course we can just make the stories up, too.
And if times get hard, storytelling is such a thrifty way to provide entertainment to those who want to or even have to listen to the story.  Often even repeating the story is also very entertaining. And one does not have to rich, or even poor, to enjoy story telling. And stories don’t have to be scary, though kids seem to like listening to scary stories. That sounds like a parent problem to me, like living with the results of scared kids. Just tell the kids to go get in bed with Mom and Dad, for example.
Last are two story telling “principles” I learned in the Marines.
One is that to never ever let the truth interfere with a good story.
And the corollary is that nothing screws up a good story like an eye witness.

And History is what is written and said, not what happened.
