Voting priorities in a Constitutional
Republic like the USA
Call it a civics lesson and opinion if
you will
The way I
was taught is that the elected representatives, to include those in the Senate,
are supposed to vote what the representative thinks are the priorities of his
or hers’ constituents. Often these priorities are perceived as selfish and
often include monies and projects. And to try figure out constituent priorities
is often a difficult task.
Elected
representatives, or those running for office, are not supposed to vote their
own consciousness, which may differ from what the constituents want.
And the
various Courts adjudicate all challenged laws according to the existing laws and not
some personal standards of the judges.
Nowhere is
there room for such things as signing statements by executives. There are
vetoes and explanations for the vetoes.
And nowhere
is there room for executive selected enforcements of laws passed by
legislatures and signed into effect by executives.
