Blackberry Wine

Blackberry Wine

Where I live in east Tennessee on top of the Cumberland Plateau, I enjoy having many many blackberry plants growing wild about everywhere. They do enjoy sunshine, solar energy by another way to say it.  And they make many blackberry fruits, too.

So, being a Marine, I tend to rehearse about everything I can rehearse.

So around here I would say the black berries are a week or two behind best maturity on this day (July 5).  They should be perfect in about a week or two.

The local deer also enjoy and eat them, too.

And when I pick my share, I will probably have to deal with local bugs, like chiggers, too. My grandmother had her own way to deal with this, too. Basically, she drew a bath of warm water with some alcohol in it, and soaked for about 15 minutes.  She had made me help her pick black berries, too, and by the way. And it worked for her. I never tried it.  And I do just hate getting chigger itches.

But, best case, I will try make some blackberry wine, and see what sort’s out. Even watching an old I love Lucy episode on TV may not be good enough.

Only time will tell.

Here’s one link on the subject, too:  http://winemaking.jackkeller.net/blackbr2.asp
