Weirdo Americans like me in east Tennessee do count tree rings that are from trees that were growing during this great world-wide calamity circa 1883.  There are not many left where I live.

And the amount of volcanic dust and other such bad things that were thrown up into the atmosphere did make a difference in east Tennessee, USA (2 growing seaons), at the time.
