The four seasons

The four seasons

They are winter, spring, summer, and fall.

Roughly we humans are half-way through the winter (December 21 - March 21), with another six weeks of winter weather due. Of course it may snow during the spring (March 21 - June 21) but generally expect more windy and rainy conditions (like spring showers and flying kites).  The "planting date" where I live is May 15, a date when one can plant plants and sow seeds and expect them to not be killed by the probable hard freezes occurring before May 15. Other places and altitudes have different "frost dates" or "freeze dates", so check it out for where you live.

And every day since December 21 of 2013, slowly but surely the amount of daylight is growing until  the summer solstice on June 21, when the days will gradually darken until the December 21 of 2014 (the winter solstice)when the cycle will start over.

Now in the lands of the midnight sun, there is another set of dates depending on how far one lives north and south of the equator. There people often get to see the various magnetic auroras, also ( at least compared to those living closer to the equator ).

Last, during the summer season when we wear less clothes for temperature reasons, we often all collect enough sunshine through our skin to make vitamin D.  Many choose to take vitamin D supplements during the darker times, too.
