·       Compared to people, they generally can handle cold and disease and rotten food

 better than we humans  can

·       Don't plan on abandoning them to fate at the last second

·       Pets make good biological alarms, generally speaking

·       Any kind of food is better than no food

·       Pets tend to intimidate home invaders and wildlife

·       Pets often will provide security to travelers, like barter people. Security can be from humans and wild animals.

·       Those planning on using shelters may not be able to take their pet(s) with them
