My standards are pretty low

My standards are pretty low

All I expect if for the clerks who provide a service is to be able to read, write, and operate the adding machine

Why do I expect and hope for this low standard?  Mostly it is for these people's opportunity for success in later life, marriage, parenting, the whole kit, so to speak. Heck I am a parent, too.

But when things turn sour for me, and I perceive I am dealing with poorly educated people who often even have different work  standards, then I start to turn hard. Now both thoughts are against them, and their other adult leaders; including their parents, who after all allowed all this to happen to their children. Being setup for failure in life is immoral to me if done deliberately, even if by laziness or just preserving the status quo. And then there are the kids, and the customers, too. I personally object to helping a McDonald's clerk make change for a drive through food order; or having to find a UPS (United Parcel Service) delivery 200 yards from my house and in the woods during a cold snap.

In my mind, somebody has short changed these children and now workers in their own life. My priority and focus is on the future, and not the past, too. Said another way, I am less interested in correcting the sins of the past, than I am in trying to ensure the success of our young people in our and their future. We all know about the past and present "sins" being perpetuated.

So what can one thing you can do in 2014.

There are several obvious things.

1) Be a parent. Being a married parent is best. Recognize how limiting and demanding being a parent can be. Bill Cosby is on to something.

1a)  Being a single Mom who has successful kids is very admirable, but not the easiest and best way to go.

2) Educating one's children is a sacred responsibility for all parents.  Leave indoctrination somewhere else.

3) If you don't like the status quo, then change it as best you can. Using the vote for public school board elections is one obvious example. Revolt is another less preferable example.  Home schooling is another obvious example.  The mission remains pretty simple....parents must look out for their kids in educating them. The mission is simple education that benefits them in their life.

4)  Kids are forever, in most cases. Of course they too will get old and die, also.  And along the way they will probably have some kids, too.
