The advantages of doing rehearsals

The advantages of doing rehearsals

You can call it practices, too.

1)    Do it as a whole.

2)    Or do it in pieces.

3)    Expect surprises, both good and bad.  Then adjust.

4)    Always focus on your objective. Don’t get distracted.

5)    Be able to say I’ve done it at least once, if you can.

There are lots of examples for all of us.

1)    Bake a store bought pie if you are rehearsing baking in a survival type oven or Dutch Oven. In other words, the objective is the cooking method and not the pie. You can rehearse baking a homemade pie in your own kitchen oven or Dutch Oven (in the kitchen), for another example on the same theme.

2)    Don’t live the survival mode (like a full time and constant rehearsal) if you can take advantage of more modern means. But do rehearse as much as you can.

3)    Prepare and stockpile as best you can. Fight the mice now, rather than later.  Keep enough water and food for several days for your expected influx.

4)    Lower your standards as need be. For example wear more clothes or Long Johns, and turn your temperature down during the cold season.  The same drills apply in the warm season.

5)    Hand wash and wring out your clothes the old fashioned way, then dry them on a clothes line or bush or whatever you have available.

6)    Clean your clothes and linens ahead of time as best you can. Use all the modern advantages when you can.

7)    Practice ironing and starching clothes, even with a “bacon press” if necessary.

8)    Grow a small garden and eat the output. Preserve some of the output, and eat it later if it passes your health test, like looks and smells OK.

9)    Setup security plans and practice them as appropriate. There are plenty of weapons besides guns, by the way. For example, practice with crossbows, slingshots, snares, tasers, pepper spray, cow prods and of course guns. Be thrifty about training with ammo, too. Consider using “dry fire” for some of these weapons, like in establishing a sight picture.

10)           Practice basic maintenance skills, or even just one skill. For example, fix a plumbing leak.

11)           Plan a rudimentary medical type place. Plan on using Over-the-Counter drugs when rehearsing its use.

12)           Read a reference book about where you are weak in your skills.  Many people can’t hunt or snare anymore, for one example.

13)           Prepare a plan to rehearse.

14)           Always think of public health issues, like where to place pee and poop and trash areas. Move things already there as a rehearsal and ahead of time.

15)           Figure out where you will get your energy, and won’t get your energy.

16)           Attend a religious event.

17)           Revive or refine your entertainment training. That includes reading to children.

Assuming times work out well, one might even adopt some of these rehearsals for their own future. Scouts cooking with a Dutch Oven is one such example.

Heck one can even do something old fashioned, like sponsor a Community event or even a neighborhood volleyball game and cookout. Just don’t say it is also a rehearsal.
