Battle of Franklin (1864)
A wiki link
on the subject can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Franklin_%281864%29
I once lived
within 100 yards of the front line of the Battle, which was fought during the American
Civil War. Now one can say the front line shifted during the Battle, and they
would be correct.
Neighbors
periodically are still digging up cannonballs from the Battle, usually when
doing yard and garden type work. None have gone “boom” and hurting or killing
someone a century after the Battle, thank goodness.
Even I kept
trying to find the grave of someone allegedly buried on my parent’s property
during the Battle. I never did make a discovery circa 1960. I have since buried
a dog on the property. Time does move
on.
It is hard
to believe such things in 2014 are still happening and being talked about in
the new world USA.
I have lived
in other places in the third world where battles were fought, and remnants of
these battles are still being periodically dug up from the earth. Sometimes it
is kind of scary, like a bomb being “discovered” and dug up from a children’s
playground.
