Learning to cook on a woodstove
First “a” link on the subject: http://www.countrysidemag.com/82-6/learning_to_cook_on_a_woodstove/
Second, the Hemlocks has a “Kitchen Queen Wood Cooking Stove”.
Third, I remember as a little boy how hot it got using the stove
here during the summer at the Hemlocks. It was “hot”, and I chose to leave the
scene of the cooking and baking going on.
Fourth, the amount of “engineering” that goes on in using such a
stove is amazing to me. Mostly it is about the “settings” for getting oxygen to
the wood during the cooking and baking.
Fifth, I actually do enjoy cooking. That helps. Mostly the
wood cooking stove is about using wood for heat. A regular electric or natural
gas stove and oven is pretty nifty, too. And then there is the cooking part.
Sixth, using such a stove is romantic for about a day or so. After
that it is just work.
Seventh, why girls usually get most of the regular home cooking
chores is beyond me. Half the chefs in restaurants are guys, or so I still
think.
Last, we humans like to eat, and also have to eat to live. So
knowing how to use a wood cooking stove is not a bad skill to know if one has
the opportunity to be trained on this kind of widget.
