The power of sex
A savvy
leader will recognize it. Some leaders don’t. Said another way, never mix
business with pleasure, but it (we all know it) does go on, and all too often.
When the
power of sex influences business decisions, then things all too often tend to
go downhill. Whether it budgetary, or just good judgment depends on the
situation.
So that is a
complicating factor in today’s America, including our military, where the power
of sex becomes more blatant as we tend to mix the two sexes together as we
pursue our own careers and missions. This idea applies to combat, too.
Yet the
mission remains the same, which is to win after doing a successful job.
Even now, at
age 66, I have seen plenty of examples of the power of sex, and the often subsequent
erosion of smart decision making. It has happened to me in my time.
Heck, even I
enjoy a good poke now and then, or at least pretend to. But I never ever risked
my career, either. Said another way, one never should mix business with
pleasure.
What can I
say, it happens, and I better recognize it, deal with it, and lead in this kind
of environment, too. After all, girls, wives, and my daughters benefit by
leadership, too.
And of
course is one obvious question to me. That is, is it the male or the female who
cheats? Most people think most males are
not loyal enough to their wives already, but how about the complicit females
too who offer themselves sexually to males. They are about as bad, too;
especially if one thinks of Family obligations, also. While they might attract
a male, they are also often wrecking an existing Family, and that is a big deal
to me.
