Bitter cold weather and yard dogs

Bitter cold weather and yard dogs

Dogs may not be smart, but my observations are that they are not stupid.

For example, they figured out the puppy house in the barn also has two chicken house heat lamps to both help keep the wind chill down, and the general warmth up a little. So they spend a lot of time in this place, which also has a lot of straw on the floor.

I buy the line that the higher internal temperature of dogs helps them tolerate cold weather better than we humans can.

Yet so many of these dogs, especially the younger ones, come out of the puppy house to play outside and run-around.

The outside temperature gets well below freezing during this recent winter cold snap.

So even during cold times, they still defend by barking from this home place of theirs. No dog bites.  And humans and wildlife still come around here all the time, at least until the barking starts.

            Brrrrrrr.
