Racism and culture in the new world USA in 2013

Racism and culture in the new world USA in 2013

First I buy the line that I don't want to be a minority in any Country.  Said another way, it is easier being part of a majority in my Country. And it is not always racism or cultural prejudice. For example I have ancestors who make me proud and worthy of emulation during my lifetime.

Second at age 65 I have been exposed to prejudice in many ways...sometimes racial and sometimes cultural. I had a Marine Sergeant work for me who was obviously racially prejudiced, and I have had hippy girls make lewd sexual gestures to me in Newport, Rhode Island, USA.

Third, I presently live in east Tennessee in a poor Appalachian area (at least that is the image) and see prejudice about all the time. Mostly, the prejudice is economic in background, and in my opinion.

Fourth, I have been a Marine, and I believe that most of our American enemies don't want American blacks and other minorities on our American side. My belief is mostly based on my eyeballs, and listening to and watching others when I lived overseas. I know to respect most people, even if I don't always respect their different values. Sometimes, by the way, their values are better than American values. Life can be full of good surprises.

Fifth, I personally believe that some tribes (and even cultures) are better than others. I'll respectfully not name my prejudices, but will say that not all tribes and cultures have evolved equally.  Said another way, I believe some tribes and cultures are more successful than others based on long historically based observations, reports, and experiences.

Sixth, I still believe in the individual over the group. Said another way, I believe that the individual can surmount about any racial or cultural or Family prejudice in the new world USA. This idea and belief especially applies to those who get married.  As long as you are a member of my American tribe and its values, then everything else is up for grabs, including marriage. As to the rest of the World, I don't know since I think I just don't have enough experience to trust my own prejudices. Now I do believe some advice I got from an Afghani friend who pointed out it was easy to get laid in the foreign artillery school outside of Moscow, Russia; as long as you had a bottle of vodka. Even one will often be presented with your young people blossoming  in their own way; and how to both tolerate and promote that is a good kind of problem to have.

Seventh, and last, is the new world USA and the whole World less than perfect...of course. Will it probably get better in the long run, also probably. Will it take ideas like tolerance...I doubt it. Will it take ideas like knowledge of different tribal and cultural habits, probably.
