A noble idea and a crummy federal law
Just my two cents....
The idea of
universal health care appeals to me. Things like catastrophic health care and
tort reform and nursing home support for our old and infirm seem to me like
obvious examples of things we, together, can do things to help our fellow man
and ourselves in our own health care.
So be it as
to my beliefs.
And I
recognize that some, like with terminal cancer, have other priorities, too. In
my mind, catastrophic health care can be a good solution to preserving life in
order to die at a later day. After all, we do have to die sometime. And
hopefully it is later rather than sooner, especially if it is related to our
kids.
I also
believe we can have present crummy laws and practices to try achieve this noble
goal of universal health care. That is where I think we find ourselves today.
So I see
four obvious future actions.
One is to
suck it up with what has happened so far.
Two is to
elect new leaders who can devise a better federal law, or even a set of laws,
both state and federal.
Three is to
punt, and just wait another decade or so to try again.
Four is to
revolt against all the abuses and corruption that seems to be going on when
trying to implement the present federal law.
Now there
seems to be a fifth course of action I am reading about. In a nutshell, it seems like the present
federal leaders have chosen to react, vice act, and use their usual tools, like
propaganda and even lying, to try force their ideas and laws and even now
recognized adverse effects on the rest of us. In this course of action, ideas
like moral and legal authority seem to be taking a back seat to the opposites,
like moral and legal authority to lead, and common sense, to boot.
So it seems
to me that things are clearly still not perfect in regards our health care,
especially in all the practical problems that affect so many. After all, most
of us get sick and hurt in our own lives sometime. But most of us also don't
like the present setup, as wonderful as it may be considered to so many in the
minority. So now can be a good time to change it even for the better, if we
choose.
