The prudent would plan on the entire
food chain events

Second, some plan, some don't.
Weather events are difficult to plan on, though we all know they do happen.
Chances are we humans will
"muddle" through, which is usually painful for those (including the animals) doing the
"muddling". And some won't
make it. Bummer. That includes those
humans who might go hungry and cold in the process.
